Brief introduction of major in Information and Computing Science
Information and Computing Science in our school started to recruit students since 2001. So far it has been continuously recruited undergraduate students for 12 years, and there have been 8 sessions of graduates into society.
Target Location of Information and Computing Science
This program trains high level professionals with a good grasp of the basic theories and methodology of Information Science and Computing Science, gained the preliminary training of scientific research, capable of using previous knowledge and firm computer skills in the resolution of real problems, and equipped to carry out responsibilities such as research, teaching, application development and management in the department of science and technology, education department and financial institutions.
Educational ideas of Information and Computing Science
Consolidate mathematical foundation. Whether the mathematical basis is solid or not determines the development potential and stamina of the majors. Laying a good mathematical foundation helps students’ mastery of knowledge and methods of the Modern Mathematics and mathematics related to Information Science systemically. So the students will have both great developmental potential and improving room in the rapid development of Information Science and Technology.
Focus on ability training. The cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability is the key content of the reform of higher education. Ability training is mainly focus on the following three aspects: capacity of integrated usage of Information and Computing Science knowledge, good innovation ability and strong practical ability.
Broaden the professional caliber. Appropriate increase some engineering and the liberal arts of free elective courses. Practice the combination of science and technology and penetration of liberal arts and science so as to broaden students' horizons. Implement the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit combination so as to stimulate students' innovative thinking.
Present shipping features. Take measures such as taking elective courses related to shipping, participating in the practice of shipping system and shipping information relevant research projects and so on. So that the discipline of Information and Computing Science of our school would not only has a solid theoretical foundation, but also has significant shipping characteristics.
Graduates direction of Information and Computing Science
Graduates of this program can not only apply for Computational Mathematics graduate student, but also graduate student in majors of information (such as Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Optical Information Science and Technology, etc.), economics and management. Their advantage is their possession of solid mathematical foundation and good computer application skills.
Employment of Information and Computing Science
The work area of graduates of this program can be all levels of government agencies, social groups, financial institutions, library and information system, the commercial sector, industrial sector, transportation sector, large Firm, hospital, school, military, scientific research institutions, especially engaging in software development, data analysis etc. in shipping companies.
Since this specialty offering, there have been eight sessions of graduates. Graduates’ employment situation is relatively good. By the end of August 24th, the school statistics suggest that in 2012 the number of graduates is 29, the employment rate reached 100% and signing rate 79.31%. Four of the students admitted as graduate students and one go abroad to study for a degree. The employment rate and signing rate are both on the top among the graduates of five specialties in Liberal Arts College.
Faculty of the teaching and research section of Information and Computing Science
At present, there are 13 teachers in the teaching and research section of Information and Computing Science, they are: Zhang Weibiao, Xu Zhaoliang, Xu Jianhua, Liu Jifen, Chen Jianbiao, Zhang Shibin, Liu Lihua, Jiang Jiao, Wang Caifang, Zhang Xiaoyong, Li Yan, Xu Rui, Jin Zhong. Among them, there are 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 3 lecturers, and 9 of them have a doctoral degree.
Curriculum of the teaching and research section of Information and Computing Science
For the realization of our educational idea, when establishing the instructional scheme, we mainly consider the curriculum from the following several aspects.
In the prerequisites, there are Mathematical basic course and necessary Computer and Information basic courses. Through the studying of these courses, it lay a good mathematical foundation for the students and helps them to gain the capacity of solving problems by using a computer.
The main Mathematical foundation courses set up are Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Probability Theory and Data Statistics, Ordinary Differential Equation Mathematical Physics Equation, Operations Research, etc.. These courses can provide conditions for students to learn more modern mathematical knowledge and methods, so that they would possess strong stamina with their solid mathematical foundation, and they can adapt to various social needs and have wide development and improve space in the future study and work. The Computer and Information foundation courses set up are University Computer Foundation, Advanced Language Program Design, Algorithm and Data Structure and so on. Through the setting up of these courses, students would not only possess the capacity of basic algorithm analysis and algorithm design, but also lay a solid foundation for the subsequent course and entering the world of work.
In technical required courses, it mainly sets up core courses of Mathematics and Information Science. Through the study of these courses, it enables students to master the basic theories, methods and skills of Information Science and Computing Science.
The limited elective courses including application class and computer and information class curriculum. Students can determine a direction according to the elective courses provided and their own situation and through the study of these relevant direction elective courses to lay the foundation for future work in related fields.
In the course of practice teaching, course Design and Graduation design related to Computational Mathematics are set up. Through the teaching of practical links, it would strengthen students’ capacity of independently obtaining knowledge, asking questions, analyzing and solving problems, and make students gain the initial training in scientific research. In addition, there are independent open experimental courses among the elective courses, the setting of these experiment courses would help to students’ understanding and mastery of the basic concepts and theory of these courses.
